Forest Park's extensive system of trails, fire lanes and roads provide excellent opportunities for hiking, walking, running, and simply escaping the urban atmosphere. The 30.2 mile long Wildwood Trail, a National Recreation Trail, is part of the region's 40-Mile Loop system that links Forest Park to pedestrian and other routes along the Columbia River to Gresham, to Southeast Portland, along the Willamette Greenway, and back to the Marquam Trail in Southwest Portland.
To help preserve the nature of the park experience for everyone, please remember:
- Observe signs indicating allowed uses at each trail. See our maps for designated bicycle trails.
- Protect the wildlife: Keep noise levels down and pets leashed at all times. Fishing is not allowed.
- Protect the forest: Firearms, fireworks, fires, and camping are prohibited.
- Protect the habitat and the Balch Creek stream bank: Stay on trails at all times. No picking of wildflowers or planting without Park staff authorization.
- Protect fellow park users: Bicyclists should reduce speeds at blind corners and in busy areas such as Leif Erickson Drive and near Thurman Street.
- Do not leave litter in the Park.
- Do not leave valuables in car.
- Enjoy the Park during its day-use hours: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.
