The Greenway concept was initially proposed by the North Dakota Congressional Delegation after the flood of 1997. A crucial component of the flood protection project, the Greenway is more than a device for flood mitigation; it is an enhancement to the quality of life for residents of the Greater Grand Forks area.

The Greenway provides a unique opportunity for year-round outdoor recreational activities in an urban setting. Enjoy hiking, walking, running, rollerblading, biking, birding, canoeing/kayaking, fishing, golfing, and more in the heart of Grand Forks/East Grand Forks.
And we don't close for the winter! Living in North Dakota and Minnesota means lots of snow and that equals plenty of opportunities for groomed cross-country ski and snowmobile trails. Not your style? No worries. The Greenway also offers Ice skating and sledding in many of the parks.
