The Hippodrome State Theatre
The Hippodrome State Theatre is the architectural centerpiece of Gainesville's Historic downtown and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The main stage theatre features the work of award-winning thespians and presents some of the best theatre in the country. Meet Vanda, an unusually talented young actress determined to land the lead in a new play based on the classic erotic novel, Venus in Furs. Vanda's emotionally charged audition for the gifted but demanding playwright Thomas becomes an electrifying game of cat and mouse that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex.

The Hippodrome's 40th anniversary season promises to entertain audiences like never before with our most dynamic and inspiring lineup of plays yet. The Hippodrome's 2012-2013 season is jam-packed with Broadway hits (Other Desert Cities, Venus in Fur, Avenue Q); family-friendly plays (A Christmas Carol and Robin Hood); and a campy send-up of the cult-classic Carrie for the Halloween season. And for the first time, we are ending the season with a Tony Award-winning Broadway hit - the musical comedy Avenue Q. Join us as we celebrate 40 years of artistic excellence while embarking on our most ambitious and enjoyable season to date.
