The liberty bell museum

Everyone knows about the Liberty Bell. Or do they? This exhibit, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberty Bell Shrine Museum in Allentown, answers the question, why was the bell cast in the first place? Long before it became known as the Liberty Bell, it was cast to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Charter of Privileges of William Penn. The Charter is one of the documents that formed the basis for our nation's Bill of Rights. By special arrangement with the American Philosophical Society, an exact replica of the original document will be on display at the museum.

Visitors will learn about the purpose of bells in colonial life, why the bell was cast for the State House building, as well as the evolution of what was simply a town bell into what became a symbol of freedom recognized around the world. The exhibit also answers the question, why is there a museum dedicated to the Liberty Bell in Allentown? It tells the story of the vision of the founders of the "Shrine" and more.

This exhibit will feature Allentown's official mouse, Pip, created by Dr. George R. Creegan and his history in Allentown and with the Liberty Bell Museum.

Come celebrate with Pip in this very special anniversary year. If you remember the original show at Hess's, you'll enjoy a wave of nostalgia as you see what Pip has gathered for his "Mouseum." You'll learn some things you never knew from the Liberty Bell photo-time-line. And you'll delight with children and adults at this season's premiere showing of this wonderful puppet show. Reservations are required. Contact the museum at 610-435-4232 for more information

Join us for breakfast with "Pip the Mouse" from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Zion Church. Pip will greet guests during breakfast.
