The Menominee Range Historical Foundation maintains three separate museums and a giftshop in Iron Mountain, Michigan. The World War II Glider and Military Museum, opened inJuly, 2011, features one of only seven fully-restored CG-4Agliders in the world, as well as extensive military displays.During World War II, the Ford Motor Company's plant inKingsford built more Model CG-4A gliders for the UnitedStates Army than any other company in the nation at muchless cost than other manufacturers.

The Cornish Pumping Engine and Mining Museum featuresthe largest steam-driven pumping engine ever built in theUnited States which is listed as both a National Historic Siteand a Michigan Historic Site. In addition to the mammoth steam engine, the museum has historic photographs and artifacts, as well as extensive displays of undergroundmining equipment.

The Menominee Range Historical Museum features more than 100 exhibits depicting local history from NativeAmerican inhabitants through the early years of the 20th century with chronological displays and re-createdperiod rooms. The museum is located in the former Carnegie Public Library, constructed in 1902 and listed asa Michigan Historic Site. The Menominee Range Gift Shop, located at the Cornish Pumping Engine and Mining Museum, featurespublications on the area and the Upper Peninsula, as well as a wide variety of gifts and souvenirs. Please visitduring our regular hours from Memorial Day through mid-October, or shop by mail for publications.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Menominee Range Historical Foundation is dedicated to the perpetuation and preservation of the history of the Menominee Iron Range and the use of that history and our museums to further educate the general public.The Menominee Range Historical Foundation and its three museums - Menominee Range Historical Museum, Cornish Pumping Engine & Mining Museum, World War II Glider & Military Museum - is a 501 (c) 3 organization dependent upon donations, grants, membership dues and earned income to provide its annual operating costs.The Menominee Range Historical Foundation is a member of the American Association for State and Local History (AASLH), the Historical Society of Michigan, the Upper Peninsula Travel and Recreation Association (UPTRA) and the Tourism Association of the Dickinson County Area (TADCA).
