About Us

The Science Factory came to fruition in June, 2002, when a committed core group of leaders staked careers and financial commitments to ensure that a children's museum and planetarium could continue to exist in the Eugene/Springfield metro area. The Science Factory has since doubled its membership base and attendance, achieving financial solvency, and is now poised to expand and grow with our community's needs.

The Science Factory is an Oregon non-profit, supported by local businesses, foundations, and individual members.

OUR MISSION

To engage, excite and inspire children toward a lifelong love of learning about science, technology and humanity.

OUR FOCUS:

  • To continuously change and upgrade exhibits and educational programs;
  • Use hands-on exhibits and activities in a safe environment; and,
  • Encourage children to use mind and body to explore science, technology and humanity.

The Science Factory Children's Museum & Exploration Dome is a member of the Association of Science and Technology Centers and the Northwest Association of Youth Museums. The museum is 10,000 square feet including the planetarium, classroom, computer laboratory, exhibit hall and meeting space. Situated in Alton Baker Park on over 4.35 acres of property, the Science Factory affords a wonderful opportunity for combining outdoor environs to its overall visit experience.

This year the Science Factory has touched over 30,000 visitors through admissions, after-school programs and camps, travelling workshops, field trips, scholarships for youth, and more.

What people are saying about us:

"The Science Factory has really come alive in the last year! New and exciting exhibits and projects for the kids (and adults!) are truly fascinating. THANKS for revamping and consistently reinventing the Factory. We, and Eugene, thank you!"

Nancy Bruce-Ceccanese, Parent

"Learning together, playing together and discovering the world of science together are critical components of education. The Science Factory is well-poised to begin this exploration and to supplement and enhance the formal education of our children."

George Russell, Superintendent, Eugene School District 4-J

"The Science Factory is the main science resource in our area to supplement what can't happen in schools. It provides a fun atmosphere of active learning for small groups, without the requirement of homework."

Sam Miller, Retired Middle School Science Teacher

"Thank you for providing our residents with the scholarships to attend Science Factory Summer Camps this year. Many of these children would never have the opportunity to attend without the scholarship assistance. I have heard an array of interesting facts from the children on the topics of their classes, and have truly enjoyed watching them share their new found knowledge with others. Your gift to our residents is very much appreciated and treasured."
