Theatre of Gadsden At The Historic Ritz Theatre

The Ritz Theatre began operation in 1927 as a silent movie house. It showed its first sound film in 1933 and closed in 1965 as a movie house. Gadsden Civic Theatre purchased the building in 1971 and reopened The Ritz as a legitimate theatre with the stage play Born Yesterday as their first production. Gadsden Civic Theatre would later merge with Actors Community Theatre to form The Theatre of Gadsden, which still makes its home at The Ritz.

In 2008 the City of Gadsden purchased The Ritz and began renovations to restore it to its former glory. The Theatre of Gadsden now leases The Ritz from the City and operates the facility and events.
