The Twin City Market (TCM for short) was started as a project of the Northwest Illinois Ag Coalition (NIAC). TCM started operations as a farmers' market in mid-July 2005 after the generous contribution of a building and funds from the City of Sterling, Illinois. Because of its indoor location, TCM can be open year round.
Year-round offerings include locally grown beef, pork, free range chicken and eggs. Homegrown produce, organic herbs (fresh in the summer, dried in the winter), honey, jams, jellies, sauces, baked goods (pies, breads, cookies, cakes), black walnuts, homemade noodles, soaps, soy candles, rag rugs, baskets, knitwear, home decor, art, crafts. Gift certificates are available.
The in-house Scarecrow Cafe features reasonably-priced homestyle comfort food made by Chef Myra Sargent. Much of the fresh ingredients used in her cooking have been donated by our local vendors. Offering breakfast, lunch, hot soup(s) of the day-dine in or to go. Hot coffee and tea offered for a small donation in the jar.
The Twin City Market exists to provide a source of freshly grown produce and locally raised meat, poultry and eggs, while educating the community on the advantages and benefits of local agriculture. Lastly, the market helps foster an economic environment that contributes to the financial success of the local business entities that provide our community with their locally grown, raised or crafted products.
