Uintah County Western Heritage Museum
"Preserving Our Heritage"
Uintah County Western Heritage Museumfeatures displays of the pioneers, Native American Indians, miners, soldiers, lawmen and outlaws who helped shape the history of the Uinta Basin.
Western Heritage Museum, located within Uintah County's Western Park Complex, opened it's doors June 29th, 1991. To celebrate the Grand Opening, the Western Art Competition winners were announced; Valoy Eaton displayed a one-man art show; The Outlaw Trail Cowboy and Lawmen Association displayed outlaw and lawmen memorabilia and many local residents such as Esther Campbell, Henry & Ira Schaefermeyer, Harry AuMiller, Judy Weldon, among others, had pioneer artifacts on display.
Now, 20 years later, the Western Heritage Museum is known for its excellent western artifacts donated by relatives of the pioneers of the Vernal area and the greater Uinta Basin. It is also home to the Leo C. Thorne Collection - Ute & Fremont Indian artifacts.
The Museum is also the host to monthly art exhibits which range from local artists & traveling exhibitions to the annual Uintah Arts Council Juried Art and Juried Photography exhibits. We are also the new home for the First Ladies of the White House Doll Exhibit. Started in December 1975, this collection was designed to honor the First Ladies who have added dimension, tradition, and grace to our national life.
