Vineyard Haven Public Library

The Library is located in Vineyard Haven, a village in Township of Tisbury, (incorporated 1671), on the Island of Martha's Vineyard. The town has a rich history combining seafaring, tourism and commerce. The Library serves as a community center, providing materials, programs and services that meet the informational, cultural, and recreational needs of Island residents and visitors alike.

LIBRARY CARDS

  • Permanent cards are issued free to Martha's Vineyard residents and off-island seasonal resident taxpayers.
  • Massachusetts residents who are not local taxpayers may obtain a free temporary card, with a 10 item limit. Only 1 temporary card will be issued per household.
  • Summer out-of-state residents who are not local property owners will pay a $10.00 fee for a temporary card with a 10 item limit. Only 1 summer temporary card will be issued per household.
  • Please bring a photo I.D. and/or proof of residency and mailing address when applying for a card.
  • Your library card may be used at all 34 CLAMS libraries located on Cape Cod and the two Islands.
  • Please bring your library card with you in order to check out books and other items as well as to use other library services such as computer access.

MATERIALS, RESERVES & INTERLIBRARY LOANS

  • Circulating collections include: books, magazine, audio & videotapes, CDs & DVDs. The library subscribes to over 100 magazines, journals, newsletters and newspapers.
  • Most materials may be borrowed for 2 weeks. Videos are loaned for 7 days.
  • Most library materials can be reserved. Items requested from the CLAMS network via home or library computer will be delivered to the library for pickup.
  • Items not found in the CLAMS network may be requested through the library. Staff will be glad to assist you.

COMPUTERS & OTHER EQUIPMENT

  • The library has computers with word processing software and Internet access. Educational games are available in the Children's Room. Printing costs are 25 cents per page.
  • Cardholders may sign up in the library to schedule one hour's use per day on these machines. We do not accept phone reservations for computer use.
  • Non-cardholders my use one of our express computers for a half hour's use per day.
  • Instruction for using our electronic catalog & databases is provided by staff.
  • We also offer a very basic class one-hour introduction to the internet class. Please sign up at the circulation desk to arrange a day and time.
  • Equipment - An Optilec large print reader and microfilm reader are available for in-library use.
  • Wireless access to the Internet is also available. We ask those with wireless laptops use the tables downstairs in the quiet study area. This will allow others wishing to read newspapers and magazines to use the limited table space upstairs.
