Wood County Veterans Memorial
We are a group of citizens - some veterans - dedicated to preserving the memory and honor of all Wood County veterans of war who paid the ultimate price in defending the principles and freedoms of the United States of America.
Wood Country Veterans memorial Fund, through Community Foundation of South Wood County and Marshfield Area Community Foundation, is established to administer money for the construction of a monument on the front lawn of the Wood County Courthouse. The memorial - in the shape of Wood County - will be located near the courthouse entrance at 400 Market Street, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. An Artist's rendering of the monument is shown on the home page.
Why a Veterans Memorial?
We and other donors to the memorial want to make sure that all Wood County service men and women who died as a result of combat-related wounds, injuries or causes are not forgotten; their names will be engraved on the memorial for perpetuity. Inspiration for this monument comes from the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., and closer to home, the Highground in Neillsville, Wisconsin.
They rest in peace so we may live in peace. In Memory of All American Veterans This memorial honors all American veterans who although separated by generations shared a common, undeniable goal to valiantly protect our country's freedoms.
