Woodlawn Cemetery
Centrally located in Detroit, Woodlawn Cemetery is among the most prestigious cemeteries in the country. The cemetery was founded in 1895 and features over 150 private estates. The cemetery is known for having one of the largest collections of private mausoleums in the country.
Woodlawn has always been the preferred choice of the local elite. Here you'll find those who helped build Detroit's legacy, including members of the Ford, Dodge, Chapin, Hudson, and Van Dusen families. Civil rights activist Rosa Parks is interred in Woodlawn's beautiful mausoleum.
Woodlawn is also the final resting place of Motown greats, including the Temptations ‘David Ruffin and the Four Tops' Levi Stubbs and Renaldo "Obie" Benson, and Edward Patten, member of Gladys Knight and the Pips. C.J. Whitney, who owned the Detroit Opera House and other theatres, is interred in a domed private mausoleum. Living legends Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross both have sites reserved at Woodlawn.
