The Arts Council of Greater Palatka is the designated Local Arts Agency for Putnam County, also known as an LAA. We were designated as the LAA by the County and State in 1975. We are a 501- C3 non profit corporation.

The Arts Council of Greater Palatka was incorporated in February of 1975.

The Putnam County Commissioners and the State of Florida Divison of Cultural Affairs recognized The Arts Council of Greater Palatka as the official County representative of Putnam County in April of 1975.

In 1992 The Arts Council was given the Larimer Building located at 216 Reid Street Palatka as our new art center which once was the public library. The building was renamed the Larimer Art Center.

Mission Statement: Our mission is to advocate the role of arts and culture in Putnam County, Providing arts education to both in and out of school learner's and to continue to enrich the quality of life in our community through the cultivation, presentation, and preservation of cultural facilities and events.

The Arts Council of Greater Palatka promotes 8 to 10 gallery shows each year, from a wide variety of artists and media.

It is our goal to showcase many of our local artisans along with art from outside of Putnam County. In the past, we have had Florida School of the Arts students, The Palatka Art League show, an all-county open art show for adults, and shows of artists who have had a major impact on the arts in Putnam County such as Grace Urqhart. Additional shows were Tiffany Sage and her family with several of her family members showing their art at the Larimer Galleries, and the Herschel Stallard and Friends water color show, and Doreen Hardy to name a few.

We had Lee Conlee House gallery show during Victim's Awareness Month and Bras for a Cause where proceeds went to help Cancer patients. One of our favorites was the WWII show in conjunction with our Veterans Movie Series. This was in conjunction with the Honor Air program to send Veterans to Washington to see the Veterans Memorial.

We just had our 15th Annual "All County Student Art Show," co sponsored by Seminole Electric Cooperative Inc. Through this partnership, we are able to offer our galleries to all Putnam County students to display their works of art. We are so proud of the talented young artists that we have in our county. Last year we had over six hundred pieces of art displayed. Each year, Brenda Atkins and other volunteers from Seminole Electric Cooperative put on an awards breakfast for the young artists with ribbons and awards given out at this breakfast. It is so rewarding to see these young artists receiving acknowledgement of their work. We thank Seminole Electric Cooperative for partnering with the Arts Council to keep this event happening for the children in our community.
