Upper Peninsula Children’s Museum (UPCM)

"Engaging Youth and families to discover through interactive exhibits and learning opportunities."
Exhibits
The museum offers a variety of opportunities through its hands-on exhibits which were ALL DESIGNED BY KIDS for everyone. Hundreds of children were taken through over twenty design processes (called Design-o-saurus participatory design processes) resulting in unique and whimsical exhibit designs not found in any other museum.
Exhibit halls include The World of Science and Nature, The Incredible Journey, OVer the Air and Micro Society. Exhibits are being updated, maintained and new ones added constantly!
8-18 Media
8-18 Media is an award winning youth news bureau where kids ages 8 to 18 report on issues that affect their lives. Our mission is to empower young people by giving them a significant voice in the world. Members work in teams to produce stories which are published regularly in Marquette Monthly magazine and broadcast weekly on WMQT-Q107 Radio and WNMU Public Radio 90 in Marquette, MI.
Besides local reporting, members cover special projects such as recent cultural exchanged with youth in Japan and the 2012 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Stories have appeared in numerous national outlets including The Boston Globe, New York Daily News, Los angeles Times and The Philadelphia Inquirer. The bureau has approximately 45 members.
Sprout Store
Sprout is a very unique and special toy store with a forest theme and trees filled with toys, nestled inside of the U.P. Children's Museum. Sprout was designed by local youth in the community and now includes a wide variety of educational and fun toys and goodies for ALL ages! We are very proud to sell many Michigan made and inspired products including our CONSTRUCTIVE EATING utensils and some of Marquette's very own YOOPER FLAVOR t-shirts!
An important new addition to the store is the Kid Bizness Corner, a new program of the Children's Museum where young entrepreneurs, ages eight to 18, are selling goods they have designed and produced themselves. Some products in this program include record bowls, bags made from t-shirts, marshmallow shooters, jewelry and more!
There is an impressive array of clever items for sale in Sprout, and some you can't find ANYWHERE else! Stop in to see what Sprout has to offer, or visit us online at www.UPCMSproutStore.com and SHOP ONLINE! You can have your order shipped to your door, the door of one you love, or we will even pack it all up for you and bring it right to your car door as you pick it up from the museum!
